Top Nanaimo Summer Activities
Summer is finally here and with it come so many fun activities. Here’s a list of some fun summer activities that get you off the beach and out of the house.
Parksville Community Park
Great for kids, the Parksville Community Park boasts a giant playground and splash zone, with a boardwalk located in the waterfront area. Currently – until August 20th – Parksville Beach Fest is happening, which is their annual sand sculpting competition. Additionally, there are free concerts every Friday and Saturday night from 6:30-8:30.
Pipers Lagoons Park
Located off of Hammond Bay Road, Piper’s lagoon is a stunning place to spend your day. There is an expansive sandy beach in addition to some walking trails located at the far end of the lagoon.
Newcastle Island
Newcastle Island is a provincial park located just off the coast of Nanaimo’s city centre. Bring a picnic and take the ten minute foot ferry over for a little adventure not too far from home.
Coomb’s Old Country Market
What’s better than some ice cream on a hot day? Coombs has a two-story ice cream parlor in addition to some local shops and restaurants. Need a way to justify your ice cream indulgence? Take your bikes and bike to Coombs using the Coombs Rail Trail. The 7km crushed gravel trail starts out of Springwood Park with parking available just past the water treatment plant.
Nanaimo Bar Trail
Are you hungry for some change? Embark on a Nanaimo Bar adventure and try the different varieties this city has to offer. If you’re interested check out this link for more info on the different stops: http://eatmagazine.ca/the-nanaimo-bar-trail/
Mini Golfing
Go for some mini golf in Parksville at Paradise Fun Park or Riptide Lagoon. Both offer 18 holes while Paradise Fun Park has bumper boats in contrast to Riptide Lagoon, which has bumper cars.
Westwood Lake
Go for a walk around Westwood Lake in South Nanaimo and finish it off with a swim. The 6.2 km trail is very scenic and the water warms up during the summer making it the perfect late afternoon activity.
