Top 5 Holiday Activities in Central-Vancouver Island

December 8, 2015

The best time of the year has arrived once again and there is plenty to do to get in the holiday spirit. Whether young or old, Vancouver Island has plenty of holiday events that everyone will enjoy. Here are our top 5 things to do this December:

Visit Ladysmith

Every year downtown Ladysmith is decorated to the nines, transforming into a winter wonderland, covered in dazzling lights. Though the famous ‘Ladysmith light up’ has already passed, it is still quite the sight to see. Be sure to go at night to have the full experience.

Yellow Point Christmas Spectacular

An amazing show that boasts singing, dancing and good old holiday fun, the Yellow Point Christmas Spectacular is coming to the Nanaimo Port Theatre on December 18th, 19th and 20th. Be sure to get your tickets soon as they do sell out quickly!

Visit Candy Cane Lane

For years the residents of Mcgirr road in North Nanaimo have gotten together and made a collaborative holiday decorating effort, which is truly worth paying a visit. In addition, keep your eyes open for the Nanaimo Daily News list of winning houses for their annual Christmas light competition.

Go for a walk in Linley Park

With all of the holiday food and festivities, it is still important to stay active. Take advantage of the local amenities and go for a walk in Linley Park where you will be surrounded by the natural beauty that the park offers.

Support local businesses

Instead of shopping at big box stores for your holiday shopping this year, visit Commercial Street in downtown Nanaimo and support local businesses. It will make for a truly unique gift and you will be surprised at what they have to offer!
